I actually felt sorry for Obito.
I mean, he tries and fails in the Chunin Exams, only to watch Kakashi beat up the very same ninja who beat him. When he does eventually reach Chunin level, he does so to impress Rin. When he thinks Rin is asking him out, she's actually come to tell him that Kakashi got ANOTHER promotion. Obito was then the only one on his team willing to save Rin, but nearly got himself killed. He awakens his Sharingan, only to be seriously injured. Obito is then cut off from the rest of his team and presumably forced to hear about how Kakashi went on to become the greatest ninja of his generation-a title that Obito could have easily made his own if things had been different.
No wonder he turned to villainy.
